He died February 11, 1929 in an accident at Kemps grist mill in Randolph County, NC, not far from the Moore County border where he had moved his family from the Dover home place. His clothing became entangled in the water driven machinery and he was crushed to death. After his death, his wife and their eleven children once again moved to the old Dover home place.
